Bingo evolved from a lottery game that was used in Italy a very long time ago. It was similar to the bingo that is played today but certainly not identical. Other offshoots of that game resulted in a game whereby players had dried beans and sheets with numbers of them and a rubber stamp to put number on the beans, so it’s easy to see that bingo in its most primitive form has been played for a number of years. As it grew in popularity, it was played in the Catholic Church, and soon other churches began to play it, as well. From there, it moved to other areas like bingo halls that weren’t affiliated with any kind of organized religion, and then it moved online with the popularity of the Internet.
The great thing about the rise of bingo is that the game really hasn’t changed much, so a player is getting essentially the same experience today that he or she would have gotten years ago - it’s just fancier and there are more rules today. That doesn’t make the game less fun or more complicated, though, since there are all sorts of interesting and enjoyable variations to bingo today.
Not everyone is fascinated by the game, but those people who do like to play bingo will usually find that they can enjoy it whether they are playing the original, standard form of bingo that’s been played for so long or one of the different variations of it. People who play it online also enjoy it a lot because they have the opportunity to let the computer mark their cards for them, meaning that they won’t risk missing a number and potentially losing out on the money that they could have won. They can also chat online with other people who are playing the game, so it fosters a sense of camaraderie that they might not otherwise have, especially if they are not able to leave the house to play the game in a more standard setting, like a church or a bingo hall. When you want to become a bingo player, there aren’t that many rules and regulations to learn. Numbers are called out, and you check your cards to see if you have those numbers. If you do, you mark them. The first person to fill in a whole row - either across, down, or diagonally - is the winner, and (in a traditional setting) yells out ‘bingo.’
